2026 Plan Update!
The City of Airway Heights, in collaboration with Framework Cultural Placemaking, is updating its Comprehensive Plan to meet State Growth Management Act (GMA) standards. The project started in November 2024 and is due for submission by June 30, 2026. The revised plan will include visioning, goals, and action steps across key elements:

Land Use, Transportation, Capital Facilities, and Utilities Element: Incorporating greenhouse gas reduction, economic development, and capital/transportation funding plans.

Housing Element: Addressing housing availability, reducing displacement risks, and considering locations near employment centers and Accessory Dwelling Units.

Transportation Coordination: Working with the City’s Transportation Consultant, focusing on transit, multi-modal options, and traffic management strategies.

Utility Coordination: Working with the City’s Engineering Consultant, outlining future water, sewer, and reclaimed water service strategies.

Climate Resilience Coordination: Working with the City’s Climate Consultant, developing policies to improve climate resilience.
Visioning Survey

Community Engagement
The planning process has begun, with many ways to get involved! The City of Airway Heights will focus on inclusive outreach, ensuring all voices are meaningfully included, especially from ethnic communities, marginalized groups, lower-income households, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and the School District. Efforts include:

Targeted Outreach: Partnering with community groups for targeted engagement, multilingual materials, and accessible events.

Translation: Collaborating with translators to provide culturally relevant communication, particularly in Spanish and Marshallese.

Tribal Engagement: Inviting the Spokane Tribe of Indians, Kalispel Tribe of Indians, Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, and the Coeur D’Alene Tribe for government-to-government discussions on mutual interests.

Accessibility: Ensuring accessibility for individuals with hearing or reading impairments.
